February is Black History Month, and Fitbit is celebrating by spotlighting Black voices in health and wellness all month long. First, we’ll be rolling out some insightful new content featuring important moments relevant to the Black experience.
Examples include the Black History EmPowerment Walk, an audio guided walk honoring Black excellence throughout history, and video workouts produced by our Premium partners with a little something for everyone—from dance and yoga to bodyweight exercises and mindfulness. Expect to get your sweat on, then learn and reflect on Black history with experts Nicole Steen, Paul Wright, and Koya Webb.
Can’t tune in live? No problem. You can check out their videos on Fitbit’s IGTV afterward.
On the blog, we’ll be sharing a piece on elite Black athletes that history has forgotten to highlight—and that we are excited to elevate. We’ll also be sharing an interview with Derek Robinson, MD, MBA, vice president and chief medical officer at BCBS Illinois. Dr. Robinson is a leading voice on the topic of health and wellness in the Black community.
Speaking of wellness, we’ve all heard the term “self-care”—and seen its rise in popularity in the cultural zeitgeist over the course of the last year. But are we actually carving out the time to nurture ourselves? And what does that really mean for each of us in today’s climate, anyway? This month, we’ll be covering the science behind self-care, how to incorporate more of it into your routine, and why it matters, especially now.
Last month, we explored January as the beginning of a year of Gains. While acknowledging the unprecedented challenges of 2020, we also discussed what it gave us—and how to continue building on that in 2021. Self-care is just one part of that.
But that’s not all: February is also American Heart Month. From posts exploring how to care for your heart through the decades and heart-healthy foods to incorporate into your diet, there’s no shortage of content around improving your heart health—both physically and emotionally. One great way to get your heart rate up? Join in on Fitbit’s Get In Your Zone Challenge starting on February 22nd. Stay tuned to find out more!
